Cummins, renowned for its diesel engines commonly found in Ram pickups and semi trucks, has introduced its first-ever gasoline engine, the 6.7-liter Cummins Octane, designed for medium-duty trucks and commercial applications. The new gas engine from Cummins will provide fleet operators with a cost-effective, low-maintenance alternative to diesel while upholding Cummins’ reputation for durability and performance.
Cummins’ New B6.7 Octane Gas Engine Makes Up To 300 HP
The new engine is derived from the company’s B6.7 6-cylinder diesel platform and produces up to 300 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of maximum torque. There are also lower-output versions that provide around 200 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque. It runs on 87-octane gasoline, which delivers diesel-like performance and reliability without the added complexity of DEF systems needed to meet emissions regulations. Cummins hasn’t provided any fuel economy estimates but claims the new gas engine is 10 percent more efficient than similar gas engines.

Cummins’ first gasoline-powered engine will initially be available for Kenworth’s Class 5 to 7 conventional trucks, which are used in industries such as delivery, utility, construction, and towing. Although additional applications for Cummins’ new B6.7 gas powertrain have not yet been announced, we can imagine numerous fleets and/or automakers will adopt the new powertrain technology.
