Thirty-four cars will practice from Tuesday-Friday, May 13-16. Qualifying is Saturday-Sunday, May 17-18. Monday, May 19, is another practice day. Carb Day, featuring a practice, pit stop competition and concert, is on Friday, May 23. Legends Day, featuring a public drivers’ meeting, is Saturday, May 24.

What is Fast Friday at the Indy 500?
Cars receive a turbocharger boost to replicate qualifying setups on May 17-18. Speeds will rise from previous practice days, which are run with lower boost replicating race setups.

How Indy 500 qualifying works on Saturday, May 17
Thirty-four drivers will take to the 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval, one at a time based on a qualifying draw the evening before, taking 4-lap runs. At the end of the session, Rows 5-10 (positions 13-30) will be determined. Drivers with the 12 best 4-lap averages will return Sunday, May 18, to compete for the pole position. The slowest 4 cars will compete for Row 11 spots.

The slowest 4 cars from Saturday, May 17, will compete for Row 11 spots. The slowest driver in this group is bumped from the field.
