A woman driving a Mercedes Benz GL SUV experiencing car trouble pulled into the Jennings car dealership at 201 N. Waukegan Rd. Thursday morning (March 6). Once in the parking lot, the engine compartment caught fire. Responding firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze.
Glenview District Fire Chief Gary Schumacher said the occupant of the vehicle safely exited before firefighters arrived. The SUV was parked far enough away from the dealership building and other vehicles that the fire did not spread or damage other vehicles or the building. He said no injuries were reported.
Glenview firefighters from Station No. 6, also on Waukegan Road, were dispatched to the fire at 11:01 a.m., arrived at 11:06, had water on the fire by 11:08 and had the fire extinguished by 11:08 a.m. Firefighters cleared the scene by 11:40 a.m.
Because the SUV was pulled into a parking lot, Schumacher said Waukegan Road was not blocked and traffic was not impacted.
