WEATHERLY, PA. – The Weatherly Hillclimb is more than just a race, it’s a community event.
Joe Cyburt stated, “The town really looks forward to it. We don’t really have a whole lot of commercial here.”
Local non-profits and civic groups are on hand selling food and other items for drivers and fans through the weekend. A big boost for a small community.
Cyburt continued, “The money generated for the kids. I call them kids – the non-profits. It’s spectacular. We’re talking $20,000-25,000.”
The pit area is a hot spot for activity, with fans able to browse through and interact with each race team. It’s what keeps many drivers coming back.
George Bowland explained, “It’s part of what makes this the best hill that we do. You see more families, more kids, more dogs. Everyone parades by here looking at cars and watching this hill. It’s a great spectator hill.”
Around 100 competitors are expected to be on hand for the 2-day competition.
For Joe Cyburt, it’s a labor of love for 2 and a half decades.
“I started this, in the Fall, it’ll be 25 years ago. As we grew, I got more and more help. Now I have a pretty nice group behind me…and the whole town. I’m lucky.” Said Cyburt.
