SEATTLE — Seattle police detectives are investigating a deadly collision involving a Seattle Fire Department ladder truck and a Chevrolet Malibu early Saturday morning on Aurora Avenue North.
At approximately 4:59 a.m., patrol officers responded to the scene at North 128th Street and Aurora Avenue North, where they discovered the Malibu had crashed into the fire truck.
Firefighters provided medical treatment to the Malibu’s driver, but despite all life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The passenger in the Malibu was injured and taken to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition, according to the Seattle Fire Department.
No injuries were reported among the fire department crew.
Police determined that the fire truck was making a right turn, heading southbound on Aurora Avenue from 128th Street, when the Malibu, traveling south at high speeds, collided with the truck.
The King County Medical Examiner has taken custody of the deceased and will determine the cause and manner of death. Officers cordoned off the area, and Traffic Collision Investigation Squad detectives processed the scene.
