The Zenvo Aurora is close to its market debut, but much of its renown since its preview in 2023 focuses on its power plant. Called the Mjølner – named after Thor’s hammer in Norse mythology – it’s the most powerful V12 engine fitted in a road car, even more powerful than the Ferrari 12Cilindri.
And apparently, it’s also one of the best-looking motors out there, thanks to Zenvo Automotive’s new set of photos of the first engine to roll off the production line.
“Sound and visceral drama is what Aurora will be all about, and the engine is a vital element in this, which we will turn up to 11. At Zenvo, we are a team of passionate, genuine ‘car guys’, and it is not every day that a V12 engine is born, so it is a very proud moment and very exciting to finally showcase Mjølner. The fact it is the world’s most powerful roadcar engine was not something we set out to achieve, but is a result of us pushing what we know is possible.”

Compared to its previous form, the production Mjølner looks sleek with an all-black, sand-blasted motif with red and satin metal accents. Designed by Mahle Powertrain, a company connected to the revered Cosworth Engineering, the bespoke Mjølner 6.6-liter 90-degree V12 is rated to produce up to 1,850 horsepower with the help of an electric hybrid system. However, 1,250 hp of those ponies comes from the engine alone, force-inducted by four turbos.

You’ll need a small fortune to buy one though.
The Mjølner produces just as much torque as its horsepower, rated at 1,032 lb-ft. Previously, Zenvo Automotive claimed that its sensational V12 would redline at 10,000 rpm. However, the latest release now puts it at 9,800 rpm. With a Mahle jet ignition system involved, the engine is touted as meeting Euro 7 emissions standards and can supposedly run a λ=1 (Lambda equals one) stoichiometric air-fuel ratio, meaning optimal combustion.
The Mjølner Is Just The Beginning
As with previous claims, the Zenvo Aurora is rated to have a top speed of 280 mph. Once it hits the road this year, it should be one of the fastest cars in the world. According to Zenvo, the production version of the Mjølner marks the beginning of the “extensive testing phase” of prototypes – a significant step toward the introduction of its first production Aurora flagship hypercar.

Moreover, the Mjølner V12 format was developed in Zenvo Automotive’s new modular architecture, which means future iterations are possible. The company said that it will continue to develop the concept, which will be used in different layouts in the upcoming Zenvo models, most likely smaller ones to slot below the Aurora in the lineup.
