NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A vehicle was ripped apart in a rollover crash in Newport Beach early Thursday morning.
Video obtained by KTLA shows a dark-colored SUV flipped on its side along East Coast Highway near Carnation Avenue with its roof crushed in and glass littering the roadway.
The force of the crash appeared to have forced the vehicle’s engine to eject onto the sidewalk, the report said.
The crash happened around 1:20 a.m. and prompted a large response from the Newport Beach Fire Department.
According to firefighters, the driver was allegedly traveling southbound on MacArthur to East Coast Highway and appeared to cut the turn and hit the center divider.
Police said the car appeared to have flipped multiple times before landing on its driver side. Local businesses nearby including Golden Spoon, the Bungalow, and El Ranchito sustained damage from the crash.
